Guyot Designs Commuter Bottle

Guyot designs sent me this steel water bottle to test out this past summer. This 24oz bottle is their commuter design bottle which is tapered toward the bottom to fit into cup holders easier.

This bottle is made of 18/10 surgical grade stainless steel. There are some advantages to stainless steel over plastic. First, you don’t get the plastic taste, and I love drinking water out of the steel as opposed to the plastic…it just tastes better. Another thing is that you can boil water in the stainless steel bottle if you need to in a camping or survival situation. All you have to do is remove the plastic top. Stainless steel is also more environmentally friendly. First, by not ending up in a land fill as often as a plastic bottle because it’ll last longer. Also, the manufacturing process is cleaner for the environment.

This bottle also has an advantage over aluminum bottles in that aluminum bottles are lined with a coating. This coating retains flavors easier and also can break down over time. This bottle doesn’t require a coating. It’s also a nice thick bottle that you won’t see dent as easily as a aluminum bottle. In fact this bottle has some weight behind it, which some might not like, but doesn’t bother me in the least. I know it’s not going to dent easily and I’ve banged it around enough where I would expect a dent out of a aluminum bottle. So far no dents in this bottle.

As I stated above, water can be boiled in this bottle if need be to purify the water or heat it for cooking, however, the bottle is not insulated and not recommended for carrying or drinking hot liquids from. The bottle will get very hot.

The top of the bottle, like the rest of it, is sturdy and has an O-ring seal. I haven’t had any leaks. The top is held to the bottle via a cord lanyard. This cord is held in place by cinching the cord tight and then tightening a hex screw. The appropriate sized allen key is included.

The bottle is also dishwasher safe although I’d either hand wash the top or make sure the top is in the top rack of the dishwasher, just to play it safe.

This bottle, thus far, has proven to be a sturdy bottle. The Guyot line of bottles all have similar design properties and come in an array of sizes and styles.

MSRP: $24.95
