Casio G-9000 Mudman

This mudman is my current G-shock watch. So far I've found this to be my favorite G-shock. I find this to be a good watch for military use due to several of it's features. As far as durability, this watch like all other G-shocks is awesome. Not only does it have the standard shock resistance, but the whole module (excluding the face) is covered with an extra layer of rubber to help prevent mud, water and other debris from getting inside. Mine had taken a beating from daily use and hard use as well and hasn't skipped a beat. The negative display was little harder to see in low light, so I bought a used cream colored mudman with normal display and switched out the inner module.
The features are great. Here they are:
1- Shock resistant
2- Mud Resistant
3- Water resistant (200 meters)
4- Time, Day, Date
5- 12/24hour format
6- Auto backlight option - When held at a 45 degree angle the backlight will light if this option is turned on. You have to raise your arm a little higher than you normally would to look at your watch, but this prevents accidental illumination. The watch should be worn on the outside of the arm to prevent accidental illumination as well.
The auto EL feature only stays activated for a certain time after you turn it on. I believe it's 8 hours, then it turns itself off so that it can't be accidentally activated. After that time you'll have to turn it back on. Since it stays dark around 8 hours it's to prevent it from accidentally turning on during the day and burning up your battery.
7- Dual Illuminator - Not only does the face light up, but the surrounding area does as well.
8- Resin Band
9- Colors: black, light tan, Olive green (reversed display), gray camouflage, green camouflage
10- World time - covers all time zones
11 - 5 alarms - 4 normal, 1 snooze. The snooze alarm will go off every 5 minutes until you turn it off. The alarms can be set to go off daily, every day in a certain month, on certain day in every month, or on one specific date.
12- on/off for hourly signal
13- Button sounds can be muted (as you can see mine above is)
14- The backlight can be set to blink when alarms go off, countdown timer reaches its end, on the hourly chime. The backlight can also be set for 3 or 5 second illumination.
15- 2 stopwatches - one can be set with a 5 second countdown timer before beginning. There is also a display on the face to keep track of the stopwatch when normal time mode is displayed.
16- Countdown timer - Can be set to give you audible signals when certain times have been reached. Countdown/stop or countdown/repeat option.
17- The buttons you see are actually rubber covers for the real buttons on the inside. This helps prevents anything from getting into the watch, which is what makes it mud resistant. This also means you can push the buttons under water with less chance of water getting into the watch. You aren't supposed to do that with most watches. At first the buttons seem stiff and hard to push, but after a bit they soften up.
18- The band is screwed on...no pins to break or lose. The band won't come off unless you want it to.
I'm probably forgetting a feature or two...but that covers a good majority of it.The only thing I found wrong with it at first was that the little nubs on the back dug into my arm...but after about a day I didn't notice it...they may have softened up. I am not sure if they are
there to keep the watch in place or to keep it up off your wrist to allow mud and stuff to flush away from under it. Like I said...it wasn't an issue after a few hours.
As I said, I feel this makes a great military watch. There are however features that I would add to make it just right. I'd take away one of the stopwatches and add a small database to store info. Add vibration alert ( some g-shocks have this). 2 or 3 levels of brightness on the backlight. And the option to have the backlight illuminate when any button is pushed, that way you can set stuff in the dark without having to keep hitting the backlight button.
Overall this is an awesome watch. As of this writing I've had it for almost 2 years annd it's taken a beating and had normal daily use and still looks good and still functions great....get this watch!!!

Good catch...I'll add it to the post.

How can I turn off the AutoEL and not to wait 8 hours?

Hold down the upper right hand button for a few seconds to turn the auto EL on and off.
