Aqua Marine Whistle

The Aqua Marine Whistle by ITW Nexus is a nice streamlined whistle that has ergonomic finger grooves on it and fits well in the hand. This whistle is perfect for a survival kit or as an emergency whistle attached to your gear.

Attachment options:
Belt clip - This clip will hold your whistle to your gear and the clip bends outward at the tip so it can easily be attached with one hand.
Lanyard - The whistle features a lanyard hole which is a good way to attach it to gear as a stand alone attachment or as a backup to the belt clip. I've used this option as a backup to the clip in case the whistle comes loose it won't be lost. It can also be used to create a wrist lanyard.

This whistle is one solid piece and does not feature a ball inside. This allows this whistle to be loud and not fail when you need it most.

In day glow orange this whistle is a must have for a survival kit or for any time you're venturing out into the wild. It's become a part of my hiking kit and I'm very happy with it!

ITW Belt Clip

This belt clip from ITW Nexus is an excellent item to have if you use MOLLE gear. I've found this belt clip very useful in taking MOLLE pouches and attaching this clip to the MOLLE webbing on the back of the pouch to make it into a belt pouch. The clip attaches firmly to the pouch and can be removed, but won't come off accidentally. I've been using it to attach a small MOLLE pouch to my belt as a last ditch survival kit while hiking and I've had no issues with durability or use.

Will accommodate a 1.5 inch belt.

GTSP cord locks

The GhillieTex Sand-pump/Self purging cord locks from ITW Nexus are excellent in quality and durability. A lot of cheaper cord locks are somewhat loose and flimsy in their construction. These cord locks are not. Built very solidly and with features like ridged plunger top for better "traction" when wet, a drain hole for less gunk buildup on the spring, and slots on the side for securing it in place this cord lock is excellent as a replacement part or for your gear making needs. These cord locks also make a great quick lace system for your boots.

ITW has made installation of these cord locks easy by having a release system where the spring is not engaged until you press firmly down on the plunger to engage the spring.

Grimloc Locking D-ring

The Grimloc Locking D-ring was originally designed for the DoD by ITW Nexus. One of the original uses was to attach hydration systems (camelbaks) directly to their body armor/load bearing vest. The Grimloc was designed using Ghillie-Tex IR reduction plastic which resists rusting and corrosion. These locking D-rings are not to be used for rappelling, but for equipment attachment only. They attach to your LBV/pack/etc by threading behind the MOLLE/PALS webbing.

They are made of GhillieTEX, a polymer that is resistant to IR detection. Because they are plastic they are less likely to become a secondary projectile if broken. The area where the spring is for the push button (on the top in this picture) has purge ports to get rid of water and sand. The top of the push button (plunger) is textured for better grip with wet or gloved hands.

The Grimloc will break away at around 8o pounds of pressure as a safety feature so if the used gets caught on something his body weight will break him free.

I've found these to be very handy for many uses. They are light weight, but tough and can be used in any environment. I have yet to find anything negative about them, other than the fact that I keep finding places to put them and have to order more. Don't use cheap carabiners that you find in the checkout isle of Wally World when for almost the same price you can get something of great quality.

Tac Link

This updated version of the gear carabiner is brought to us by ITW Nexus. Because the Tac Link is not designed for rappelling or bearing the weight of a human the company doesn't refer to it as a carabiner . It does however hold up to 300 pounds, unlike the Grimloc that is designed to break loose under approximately 80 pounds of pressure for safety.

Sizing is a little larger than the typical gear carabiners that most people use. This will allow for a decent amount of gear to be placed on the Tac Link and allows it to attach to things the smaller ones wouldn't.

The Tac Link is made of GhillieTEX material. GhillieTEX is a light weight polymer material that has a reduced infrared (IR) signature over other materials. The GhillieTEX won't scratch up your gear like metal carabiners and will not produce noise like metal carabiners will. Also, the Tac Link won't become as hot as metal during hot temperatures. The only metal on the Tac Link is the corrosion resistant stainless steel spring.

Some other unique design features of the Tac Link:
  • Textured outer spine for better grip with wet or gloved hands.
  • Large opening that doesn't have the typical notch on the upper portion of the opening like carabiners have. The lack of this latch helps to prevent gear from snagging when removed from the Link. I really like this feature and wonder why no one thought of it before. I always have problems removing items with one hand because they get caught on this little notch.
I've been using the Tac Link for a while now and it's held up well. In fact it looks brand new and has held some heavy weight when using it to hold my pack. The only weakness I've found is the gate portion... when it's open it'll bend side to side a bit. I haven't forced this to the point of breaking because I'm sure you could break it this way, but I wanted to note that it will bend side to side, but I haven't had it break during normal use. I bring this point up to point out that yes it bends a little when open, but during normal and even hard use, I can't see it breaking.

Overall, I really like this replacement for the carabiner for carrying gear. If you're using a climbing or cheaper metal trinket carabiner for your load carrying needs you should definitely consider the Tac Link as a replacement.

This Tac Link is built by ITW Nexus (known for quality products) and is distributed by other companies. I suggest MilSpecMonkey. You can find it here for $4.

ITW Zipper Pull & Whistle SRB

I got these items recently from ITW Nexus. ITW Nexus produces some of the best quality plastic buckles and webbing accessories and have been doing so for 25 years.

One item I received is a side release buckle (SRB) with a built in whistle, called a Whistleloc. This is a great item for replacing your sternum strap with. It's a piece of equipment that is already on your gear, so it's not adding anything extra other than the option of having a handy rescue/signal whistle always on hand. They come in orange and gray colored whistles and the "female" portion of the buckle is black.

Another item I received was the StructSure Aerohead zipper pull. This zipper pull incorporates a stainless steal cord with plastic ends that are easy to put together with a pair of pliers. It is light weight, but durable and strong. One thing to be sure if you plan on using this that the hole in the original zipper is big enough for the end of the zipper pull to go through. I removed the original zipper pull on one jacket only to find that the end of this zipper pull wouldn't fit through.

You can't order directly through ITW Nexus, but check out there page to see all the great products they have and order through one of their distributors.
